Superman’s Son Comes Out in Newest Comic
Superman’s son finally comes out! In October of 2021, DC Comics announced on “National Coming Out Day” that their next iteration of Superman would be Queer. The moment every Queer comic book nerd has been waiting for finally arrived in the 17th issue of Superman Son of Kal-El. In a beautiful exchange, Jon Kent (son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane) came out as bi to dad, Superman.
In a press release leading up to its release, writer Tom Taylor said, “I’ve always said everyone needs heroes, and everyone deserves to see themselves in their heroes. I’m very grateful DC and Warner Bros. shares this idea. Superman’s symbol has always stood for hope, truth and justice. Today, that symbol represents something more. Today, more people can see themselves as the most powerful superhero in comics.”
How did it go? Well, being the super alien he is, Superman, knocked it out of the park, planet, and galaxy. “Every day of my life has been better since you’ve been in it—every single day. Who you love is the last thing that could change that,” the dad says to his son. “Anyone who makes your life better will always be a hero in my eyes. And no matter what, I will stand beside you. I will defend you. I will love you, and I will always, always be your father.”
